I can't wait to see everyone! There is nothing better than creating with flowers, and the excitement of taking them home and cheering up the outside of your house! I know I can't wait to do it at my house!

The transplanting is done...for a few weeks.

The two pictures above are what Becky and I had to transplant yesterday.



I have one and a half tables left to fill....hopefully that will be enough room for all my flowers that are grown from seed. We will see....and we may have to get creative :)

Can it get any better than this!? Sunny 70 degree day AND getting to work in the greenhouse the whole day with flowers!!

Picked up more cuttings from Fesslers in the afternoon. These are waiting in the greenhouse now ready to get planted up. Will tackle that tomorrow. I still have a few more trays I need to get from another liner grower too.

Just planted the tomato, pepper and other seed annuals I have chosen for this year. Waiting for them to pop up!

Can you tell my excitement is bubbling over !! :)

Progress

These pictures were taken at the Yard Garden and Patio Show. Isn't it amazing what people can do with flowers!? I thought this was so beautiful. I'm not sure which local nursery it was that put it together but one of the ones around here. I am just so impressed how creative people can be.




The petunias in the hanging baskets are growing fast! They will fill the top of the basket before I know it. I still have them sitting on benches so I can be careful on my watering. Once the roots have filled more of the pot (which I think should be soon), I will hang them up and use the drip. Before I hang them, I will give them a trim so I get more branching of the plant.

I think it will take some trial and error to decide how I will use the drip...amounts of water, frequency, etc. I still need to buy a clock, so I can have the drip irrigation go on and off automatically. Need to get that done in the next 2 weeks! Soon I will have more cuttings come and I will need all the table space I can get for the 4" pots!!!

Newly transplanted Snapdragons and Gaillardia Mesa Yellow. I never did show a picture of them growing on the heating mat in the propagation tray but if you look at my old posts from last year, it's the same idea.


Also I have terracotta color hanging baskets. When I first picked the mocha basket color, I really thought I would like the mocha color better, but I think the green plants with the terracotta color have a beautiful contrast. I think the terracotta has won me over! :) Mocha will probably more easily go with any house color though. Guess it's your choice what you will like best! :)

We just tore out a cement loading dock here. All the gravel, plus the old rusty bicycle were inside of it! We are thinking we may build a greenhouse here sometime and use it to sell out of. We'll see what the future holds! :)

And this below is just a picture of the flowers in front of our office. It just cheers me up whenever I walk by. I love color!

Vegetative Petunia Cuttings Have Arrived!

Me excited to start planting! When I went to pick up these plants, this is how the lady carried them out to my truck!

Four different colors of petunias...all for hanging baskets.

Planted 2 of each color in each pot....in a square pattern.

Try not to forget what color of plant you have in your hand.....easy to get them mixed up because they all look the same.



Carol helping me. We only planted 25 today. Waiting until more pots arrive from my supplier...hopefully tomorrow or Friday. Need to do 25 more.

I think the wires were the most time consuming part. Figuring out how to make them the height I wanted, and even, etc. Got the hang of it now.

Will wait a few weeks to hang them. I will be better able gauge how much water they need with them on the tables. Don't want to water them too much....too much water is just as bad as letting them go dry. Once the roots grow bigger, then I can hang them and use the drip irrigation.

I have high hopes for these baskets....I impatiently wait for color :)
The greenhouse will be beautiful...then hopefully each basket will go into someone's car, then to their house hanging on their front porch. :o)

These pots are 12" size but they are a deeper pot. That means there is more soil for the roots to grow around in, which means bigger plants and more flowers! Plus if you like to reuse your hanging basket pot, they are tougher and will hold up well for next year too. Just bring it back next year all cleaned up and we can replant it anyway you want.

Drip irrigation is up and done!

Those spaghetti looking tubes hanging from above are the drip lines for the hanging baskets. I still need to figure out a good way to aim the tubes into the hanging baskets. A couple good suggestions are using bamboo skewers to stick in the tube, then stick in the basket...need to find a small enough size though. Or using fish lead weights and the weight will hold the tube in the basket.


We also bought a Dosatron fertilizer injector this year...hope to get more accurate fertilizer injector amounts and also make the whole process easier overall. Plus it was doubtful that I could use my other fertilizer siphoner for the hanging baskets since they will be automatically watered on a schedule. I haven't ever tried the Dosatron so I will have a learning curve at first. Doesn't look like it will be too difficult though.

Since we bought a Dosatron, I had to do some replumbing. Below is the middle of the process, now it is hanging up on the wall. I had to plumb it (with lots of help from my dad) so I could use clear water and fertilizer both through my hose, and also both options for the drip irrigation and regular overhead irrigation.



My husband doing his "Head Seeder" job! That time a year again. We are doing much less seed this year and trying vegetative cuttings (mini plant starts) so we have lots less seeds to sow. On Jan 13th we seeded Galliardia Mesa Yellow and Dwarf Snapdragons....the Galliardia is already sprouting. How exciting is that!

In March we will be sowing more seeds...mostly vegetables, zinnias, and marigolds etc.

In early February...I am so excited...we will be getting cuttings to plant our hanging baskets! I've already picked up the soil and the hanging basket pots, and now I just need the actual cuttings!

Then the middle of March, we will be getting the vegetative cuttings for all the flowers that will be sold in 4" pots.

Today I just put the stain over my nursery display tables. Not sure if I'm really happy with the redwood stain I picked but it's too late now. We'll pray it fades :)

Display Benches

Here is one of the display benches I made. The other one doesn't have the elevated center, just a table. I loved making them! Just have to wait a few weeks for the wood to dry more so I can put a stain on to protect the wood.

And my mom conned me into making one of these for her. "Garden Art." I really enjoyed making this too. I was really happy with how it turned out. Both projects were good things to do when it was so cold outside. May make some more garden art and sell them alongside my flowers.


Another project I am working on is putting up some drip irrigation for the hanging baskets I will grow this year. Just starting to put it all together but it doesn't seem like it will be difficult at all. I will put up some pictures when I get farther along.

Soon it will be time to start the flowers again. I will receive my hanging basket flower cuttings the beginning of February, and start the seeds the middle/end of January.

You don't even understand all the hanging basket pot choices...getting that figured out now. Sometimes the choices are overwhelming.
